S.B. Submarine Systems has been awarded their first offshore wind contract, installing the export cables for the Binhai offshore windfarm in China.

This inaugural award includes cable laying and trenching works for the 300MW windfarm in Jiangsu province, which is owned and operated by China Datang Corporation. Three 23km, 220kV cables will be installed to the offshore substation with SBSS deploying a chartered DP barge and jetting sledge to complete their section of the work scope. The cable has been loaded and installation is scheduled for March 2017.

Established in 1995 as a joint venture company between China Communication Services and Global Marine Systems Limited, SBSS has a distinguished track record installing submarine cables for the telecoms, oil and gas and power utility industries throughout Asia and the Middle East.

“The award of this first offshore wind contract is an important milestone for SBSS. It demonstrates our ability to maintain focus on our strategic vision of becoming a leading supplier in Asia, delivering quality and reliability in our services” – Darren Lam, Managing Director of SBSS.
